28 wasn't exactly the best year of my life, but nonetheless, it has been part of my journey and for the lessons I've learned in this year, I'm grateful. I'm even more grateful, though, that I am turning twentynine in 2010. A fresh new year. I pray that bright and lovely moments will be strung through the days and months ahead like happy little twinkle lights. I hope that I learn deep lessons, take great strides, and spread joy and love to others. In celebration of this new year, I recently sat down and did two of my very favorite things on earth:
1. Set goals
and
2. Compiled them in a list
and have typed them up here, for your viewing pleasure:
1. Knit/Crochet/Sew.

{Learn to do any or all of the above. Or at least try.}
3. Explore my fine city {and the areas surrounding it} a lot more.
Because rescheduled FOUR times. S’il vous plaît.
"I want to eat there sometime."
{I already read with a little girl at a local school every other week,
but I would love to do something more.}
10. Go to the doctor.
I know this sounds ridiculous. But my fear of needles has kept me away for YEARS.
It's time to take a deep breath, be brave, and get in there.
11. Start a scrapbook.
12. Make crème brûlée. Note to self: Buy a culinary torch.

15. Make Grandma's pasteles.
{There is a reason I'm giving myself a year to accomplish this task.}
17. Finish (er, start and finish) our wedding album.
18. Learn to make a (really good) martini.
19. Learn French. Really. Or at leastgive it a stab.

21. Get a massage.
Does a facial count? She massaged my arms and legs...
22. Go to The Second City.

PENDING.
25. Go camping.
POSTPONED due to this.
26. Wear a bathing suit.
{And try not to be too critical.}
27. Kiss The Hubs more. Dip-me-backwards-like-we're-in-an-Old-Hollywood-movie type kisses.
28. Send more handwritten letters and just-because cards.
29. Think of one thing I am most grateful for each day.

Well, at least every other day.
Have you been setting any goals lately?

great goals! I can help with at least one: cardinal fitness near mccormick and lincoln is cheap and nice. liz and i both go there and would love to sweat with you. :)
sounds like it will be a great year! I have some good creme brulee recipes I can share (and, although I've used the torch, the broiler works just fine). And I'm part of a knitting circle (that meets very sporadically) -- I'll keep you in mind next time we have a meeting!
Thanks, Kate and Ann!
Kate - I have a friend who's offered to let me go in on her membership at Galter, which makes it so much less expensive than usual - but if something falls through it's great to know about Cardinal!
Ann - I'd love those recipes if you want to email them my way, and would love to join your knitting circle next time you get together. :)
Oh I just love this list Melissa! Wish I could do so many of these things WITH you!
You're inspiring me to make my OWN list for my OWN upcoming birthday :)
What a great way to bounce back after a tough year. I do hope this one is better for you with lots of good news.
:)
Ann-Marie and used to talk about me showing her a few knitting tips. Maybe the three of us can get together to form a knitting triangle - hoping to become a circle. I'm not great at knitting but I can get you started.
:)
Laurie, I know you did NOT just say you're not a great knitter. I've seen your work, and it's fantastic! It would be fun to get together sometime. :)
These are all great goals. And I know you can achieve them.
Speaking as one who has also made the "make budget/stick to budget" goal for this year, I can tell you that, already, we're seeing major progress toward attaining other goals that hinge on that one goal, and it feels so good.
And, not to sound like a broken record, but W3 is always an incredibly cheap workout option. I'm now on my second two-year contract, and my monthly fee went down by $3 a month (to a mere $16/month)!
I wish you all the best and know you can do anything you set your mind to. Here's to a fabulous 29!
(And, I'd still love to learn how to knit, too!)
What a lovely thing it is to find you here with your list!
If I could help you with #1 on your list, I'd be delighted. Wed. or Thurs. nights at our condo maybe? Not so much with the knitting though...I'm much better with small needles!
Here's to twenty NINE!
Galter is one of the things I miss the most about Chicago! It really is worth the expense, especially because it's so close by that it's hard to come up with excuses NOT to go. :) You can always use the NPU gym, too, but I think Galter is worth the investment.
Also, a tip on learning languages: the Harold Washington branch of the library has a huge collection of language-learning CDs that you can check out. This is probably not as effective as taking classes at the Alliance Francaise or what have you, but you can't beat the price!
these are fantastic!
i love reading people's lists.
:)
How's the list coming? Are the ones crossed out ones you have completed? If so, you've done amazing!! Are you giving yourself until your birthday to finish? You can do it! Miss you and love you. Hugs.
Sara
Sara - yes, I'm giving myself until March. Hopefully I'll get most of the things on the list accomplished, but I'm trying to give myself some grace. :) So far, so good, though - everything crossed out has been done!
